Angels update

The Angels have lost two straight and six of 10 to fall 4 1/2 games behind Texas in the AL West heading into last night. Injuries have hounded this team since spring training, with eight players taking up residence on the disabled list. That includes two-thirds of the outfield -- center fielder Jim Edmonds and right fielder Tim Salmon -- and shortstop Gary DiSarcina. Edmonds and DiSarcina haven't played all year, and Salmon was hitting .347 with seven homers and 25 RBIs before spraining his left wrist. In all, the Angels have used the DL 10 times. First baseman Mo Vaughn has been asked to carry even more of the load, and he comes into this series hitting .299 with eight homers and 27 RBIs despite an early stint on the DL. Garret Anderson is hitting .400 (12-for-30) in his past seven games. The Angels have hit 46 homers and are on pace to surpass the club record of 192. -- (Angels statistics, 6D)
