Devil Rays: Optioned 3B Bobby Smith to Triple-A Durham.

Expos: Signed P Mel Rojas to minor-league contract.

Giants: Activated 3B Bill Mueller. Optioned IF Ramon Martinez to Triple-A Fresno.

Indians: Transferred OF Mark Whiten from 15-day to 60-day DL.

Marlins: Placed former Orioles P Archie Corbin (sore right elbow) on 15-day DL, retroactive to May 16. Optioned contract of P Israel Medina to Triple-A Calgary. Will recall P Brent Billingsley from Triple-A Calgary and activate P Alex Fernandez from 15-day DL today.

Phillies: Designated P Ken Ryan for assignment.

Pirates: Signed IF Dale Sveum to a minor-league contract and assigned him to Triple-A Nashville.

New Jersey (Independent): Signed former Braves IF Mark Lemke, who is trying to resume career as knuckleball pitcher.

Minnesota (WNBA): Released F Carol Ann Shudlick and G Jamie Redd.

Gulf Coast (USBL): Signed and activated G Johnny Rhodes (Maryland).

New Hampshire: Named Phil Rowe men's basketball coach.

Flames: Will renew contracts of coach Brian Sutter and assistants Rich Preston, Al MacNeil and Jamie Hislop.

Red Wings: Suspended operations of AHL Adirondack until franchise can relocate from Glens Falls, N.Y., to Rossford, Ohio.
