SUMMER BRINGS changes in just about everyone's schedule, especially if you have school-age kids. If you haven't enrolled your pride and joy in a summer program, you still have time.

The county Department of Recreation and Parks will be sponsoring summer activity centers again this year. Centers for children in kindergarten through sixth grade will be at George Fox Middle and Bodkin, High Point, Jacobsville, Lake Shore, Solley and Sunset elementary schools.

The program runs from 8 a.m to 2: 30 p.m. on weekdays from June 28 through Aug. 6. The cost is $130.

All seven sites offer extended hours, from 2: 30 to 5: 30 p.m., for an additional $110.

The preschool program for children ages 3 to 5 will be at Sunset Elementary School on Fort Smallwood Road. Children must be at least 3 and toilet-trained.

The program operates half-days, and parents can choose 8: 30 a.m. to 11: 30 a.m. or noon to 3 p.m. The center will be open weekdays from June 28 through Aug. 6.

An overnight camp-out, including stories and roasting marshmallows around the campfire, will be included.

The cost is $30 per child. Registration is required.

If outdoor activities don't interest your 12- to 14-year-old, then maybe becoming a volunteer at the library would be of interest.

Volunteer duties will include registration, assembling and handing out registration packets, and assisting the staff.

Flexible hours and days are available. The reading program will run from June 21 through Aug. 6.
