After failing to appear as witness, teen detained on order of judge

After failing to appear at the trial of his accused assailant, the victim of a September shooting in Harper's Choice was being detained yesterday by Howard County authorities.

Raymond T. Lawson, 17, is scheduled to appear today before a juvenile master and then the Howard County Circuit Court judge who issued the order to detain him, said Assistant State's Attorney Debra Saltz.

Maurice Green, 21, is charged with attempted murder and assault stemming from the Sept. 20 incident in which Lawson was wounded. Last week, a judge issued the order to detain Lawson because prosecutors feared he would not appear to testify.

On Monday, Lawson -- an essential witness to the crime, prosecutors say -- failed to appear.

Lawson was also wanted for violating his juvenile probation, his mother has said.
