Lloyd Barker, 28, forward: A-League veteran of three seasons with the Montreal Impact. Jamaican international 1995 and 1996.

Chris Brown, 27, defender: London-born, Dallas-raised U.S. citizen was on A-League's New Orleans Storm last season. American University alumnus. Has played in Germany, Jamaica.

Trevor Ellis, 22, defender: Rookie. New Jersey native finishing degree at American University. First-team Colonial Athletic Association.

Todd Haskins, 26, midfielder: Columbia product, Parade magazine Player of the Year at Howard High. All-ACC at North Carolina. Member Raleigh Flyers 1992, 1993, the Continental Indoor Soccer League's Washington Warthogs. On U.S. beach soccer team since 1996. Cut by MLS's Columbus Crew in 1996.

Kori Hunter, 26, goalkeeper: Washington, D.C.-born, Columbia-raised, All-Metro player at Atholton. First-team Academic All-American at Rutgers.

Avery John, 24, defender: With A-League's New Orleans Storm last season. Trinidad & Tobago citizen. Another American University graduate.

Steve Knapman, 26, forward: Rookie. Englishman was outstanding last fall in a Washington, D.C., amateur league. Fast.

Erwan LeCrum, 26, defender: Rookie. French citizen was 1998 Colonial Athletic Association Defender of the Year and second-team Academic All-American at Virginia Commonwealth University.

Chris Love, 27, defender: Baltimore-born, Columbia-raised. Oakland Mills and University of Hartford graduate. Time with the Spirit, the Hampton Roads Mariners, Canton Invaders and Charlotte Eagles.

Richard Moller, 25, forward: Rookie. One of top NCAA Division I scorers last two seasons at Towson University; had 21 goals last fall. German citizen, product of FC Kaiserslautern youth program.

Russell Payne, 23, goalkeeper: Columbia-born. Glenelg High and Maryland graduate. All-ACC goalkeeper at Maryland. On 1997 New Orleans Storm, with 1.15 goals-against average, 4-0 in shootouts. In Holland last season. Already called up by twice by D.C. United as reserve.

Devin Payton, 24, midfielder: Rookie. From Derwood, Montgomery County. 1993 Parade All-American at Magruder High. Old Dominion graduate. On semipro Northern Virginia Royals last season.

Scott Pearson, 23, forward: Rookie. Englishman raised in Tampa, Fla., where he was state Olympic Development Team player for six years.

Clint Peay, 25, defender: 1994 U.S. Olympic team starter, two MLS Cup titles with D.C. United, four-time NCAA champion with Virginia. Oakland Mills product, Parade All-American in high school. Working back after knee, leg injuries. Called up by D.C. United once.

Derek Phillips, 24, midfielder: Trinidad & Tobago citizen raised in Columbia. Atholton and UMBC graduate who has played in Germany and in the defunct CISL.

Ivan Sampson, 28, midfielder: Trinidad & Tobago citizen. James Madison graduate, 1991 Colonial Athletic Association Player of the Year and All-American.

Garfield Shaw, 26, midfielder: Jamaican on A-League's Minnesota Thunder last season. 1996 Los Angeles Galaxy draftee.

Ronnie Simmons, 34, defender: Known to Blast and Spirit fans since 1995. Trinidad citizen has played for his national team.

Fabian Vega, 23, midfielder: Peruvian-born U.S. citizen. Experience on the A-League's Long Island Rough Riders. Last season with the Minnesota Thunder and D3 Pro League's South Jersey Barons.

Brock Yetso, 22, goalkeeper: Rookie. Columbia-raised, Centennial High product. Former Baltimore Sun Player of the Year. University of Virginia starter and graduate, second-team All-ACC last season, with 0.87 goals-against average, 13th best in NCAA Division I.
