Tigers update

The Tigers have won seven of 11, including last night's victory over Anaheim, and have risen to the middle of the pack in the weak AL Central. They also are 8-4 at home, compared with 6-11 on the road. They're still waiting for Gregg Jefferies to get untracked. He is hitting .192. At least the Orioles won't have to contend with speedster Brian Hunter, who was traded to Seattle. Detroit's .257 team batting average ranks near the bottom of the AL, but ahead of the Orioles (.249). The Tigers have relied mostly on their pitching, with their 4.54 ERA ranking in the middle of the pack in the league despite the absence of Brian Moehler, who is serving a 10-game suspension for scuffing the ball with sandpaper last week at Tampa Bay. The Tigers lost 10 of 11 games against the Orioles last season. Mussina is 6-1 with a 2.26 ERA lifetime at Tiger Stadium, and 14-2 with five shutouts and a 2.24 ERA overall against Detroit. Erickson is 14-3 with a 4.12 ERA lifetime against the Tigers.
