Hot corner Quote: "I'm going back to a ballpark I was accustomed to, but I'm also going back to play some ball." -- Mo Vaughn, who will visit Fenway Park on Friday for the first time as an Angel

It's a fact: The Tigers haven't been alone in first place since June 26, 1993. The next longest streak is 2 1/2 years behind -- by the Reds, who haven't been in first alone since October 1995.

Who's hot: The Royals' Jermaine Dye, who threw out Dave Martinez at third base in the first inning, leads AL outfielders with seven assists.

Who's not: The Royals had three runners caught stealing in the first five innings, two of them in rundowns after Wilson Alvarez pickoff moves.

On deck: Devil Rays rookie Ryan Rupe, who was pitching for Texas A&M at this time last year, will make his first major-league start tonight.
