SCORE offers workshop for entrepreneurs May 12

Service Corps of Retired Executives Chapter 390 will conduct a workshop on "How to Start and Manage Your Own Business" from 8: 45 a.m. to 4 p.m. May 12 at the lower level of the Conte building, 116 Defense Highway, Annapolis.

The six key steps toward starting a business will be presented by six speakers.

Annual AALU golf event to be held on May 10

The Main Ingredient, an Annapolis dining and catering facility, will be the primary sponsor of this year's golf tournament for the Anne Arundel Association of Life Underwriters, a group of insurance and financial professionals.

The tournament will be held at 11 a.m. May 10 at Crofton Country Club. Proceeds will benefit the Hospice of the Chesapeake. The Main Ingredient will provide lunch for the golfers.

The day will include breakfast, lunch and dinner. The cost is $125. Sponsorships, tee signs and donor spots are available.

YWCA to hold workshops on entering the job market

Four workshops designed for individuals entering or returning to the job market will be offered from 6: 30 p.m. to 8: 30 p.m. tomorrow and May 11, 18 and 25 at the YWCA Building, 1517 Ritchie Highway, Arnold.

Topics include resume writing; resume analysis; job-hunting strategies; job-interview techniques. The fee is $35; YWCA Career Services program participants may attend free.

Business support program at college offers open house

Office assistants and job seekers who wish to improve their skills and learn how to put their resumes on the Internet may attend a free Business Support Specialist open house at 5: 30 p.m. tomorrow in Arundel Center North, Room 420, at Anne Arundel Community College.

The feature presentation will be "Putting Your Resume Online" and a door prize of free Frontpage software will be given away. The coordinator and other faculty and staff will explain the advantages of the program and answer questions.

Orientations for the program will be at 1 p.m. and 5: 30 p.m. tomorrow at college offices at Glen Burnie Town Center.

Businesswomen's group offers $2,000 scholarship

Maryland Capital Chapter of the American Business Women's Association will sponsor a scholarship through the Stephen Bufton Memorial Education Fund. The $2,000 nonrenewable scholarship is for tuition, books and fees.

Applicants must be women who are U.S. citizens and residents of Anne Arundel County; college freshmen, sophomores, juniors, seniors or graduates in August; attending or accepted at an accredited college or university in the United States that is authorized to confer degrees at the baccalaureate level; and must have achieved a cumulative grade point average of 3.0 or better on a 4.0 scale.

Preparing a business plan is topic of May 26 seminar

Service Corps of Retired Executives Chapter 390 will conduct a seminar, "Let's Prepare a Business Plan," from 8: 45 a.m. to 2 p.m. May 26 at the lower level of the Conte Building, 116 Defense Highway, Annapolis.

The fee is $35. The workshop teaches an approach to making a business plan.

The meeting is open to the public.

Joint networking mixer will be held May 12

Jones Communication Inc. will play host to a Joint Business Networking Mixer with the Greater Crofton Chamber of Commerce and the Greater Severna Park Chamber of Commerce from 5: 30 p.m. to 7: 30 p.m. May 12 at 1655 Crofton Blvd., Suite 300 in Crofton.

Cost for the mixer is $7 in advance, $10 at the door for members and $15 for nonmembers. Deadline for reservations is noon May 10.
