Delegate sets criteria for scholarship award

Republican Del. Donald B. Elliott, District 4B, has announced the establishment of four one-year scholarships to be awarded to high school graduates from his district, which includes parts of Carroll and Frederick counties.

Scholarships are based on academic record, involvement in extracurricular activities and other criteria determined by the Scholarship Committee.

Scholarships are applicable to any public or private college or university in Maryland.

Applicants should submit a letter with an outline of extracurricular school and civic activities, the college or university the senior plans to attend, and the reason the student wishes to be considered for the scholarship.

An official transcript of grades and letter of recommendation from a teacher, counselor or principal is required. Students should include their home phone number, social security number, date of birth and polling place where their parents vote.

Applications should be sent to Betty Caricofe, Box 1110, Union Bridge 21791.

The deadline for applications is May 15. Winners will be announced after May 31.
