Gilman blasts Gaels in lacrosse

Greyhounds score early, coast to 19-5 victory

Kevin Boland and Andrew Lucas each scored four goals, and Ryan Boyle contributed three goals and four assists as second-ranked Gilman whipped No. 10 Mount St. Joseph, 19-5, in a Maryland Athletic Association A Conference boys lacrosse game yesterday.

The host Greyhounds (8-2, 5-2 league) had a season-high in goals and outshot the Gaels (5-7, 0-7), 41-18.

* No. 8 Annapolis 17, Meade 4: Drew Samaris had a season-high seven goals -- six in the first half -- and Bret McConnaughhay had two goals and four assists as the host Panthers (9-1) ripped the winless Mustangs (0-8).

* No. 9 Severn 11, John Carroll 5: The Admirals (6-6) went on a 7-2 second-half scoring run led by Marshall Feldman and Ronnie Staines with two goals each.

* No. 15 Severna Park 11, Chesapeake-AA 8: Chris Cantwell scored three times to power the Falcons past the host Cougars (3-5). Van O'Banion scored three goals to lead Chesapeake.

Girls lacrosse

* No. 2 Bryn Mawr 15, Garrison Forest 5: Behind Liz Martin's three goals, the host Mawrtians (12-1) won an Association of Independent Schools game.

* No. 11 South River 15, Old Mill 4: The host Seahawks (8-0) broke from a one-goal lead at halftime with four goals in the opening two minutes of the second half.

Softball

* No. 8 Mount de Sales 2, John Carroll 1: Christy Urban pitched her 10th complete game of the season and struck out four for the host Sailors' fifth straight win.
