Athletics update

Beginning their season-long 12-game homestand, the Orioles face a comfortable foe in Oakland. The Orioles won last year's series, 8-3, and own a 25-10 advantage the last three seasons over the A's. The A's, who are 2-5 on the road, had lost three straight before Tom Candiotti beat Cleveland last night, 4-1. Through the first three innings, the A's have been drubbed, 36-22, while opponents batter them for a .343 average compared to .270 afterward. Former Oriole Haynes opens for the A's followed by another ex-Oriole, Oquist, promoted from Triple-A April 13. Rogers finishes the series Sunday. The Orioles would love it if he'd waive his partial no-trade clause and remain in Baltimore. Jason Giambi is riding a seven-game hitting streak. Warning: Don't give the A's bullpen a lead. It entered last night with an 0.68 ERA and .196 opponents average when ahead.
