Devil Rays update, The second-year Devil Rays have established themselves as a regular nuisance for the Orioles, having won last year's series, 7-5, and taken two of three at Camden Yards to open the season. What was believed to be a team heavy on pitching has won because of its hitting and defense. The Rays have committed only four errors while scoring nine more runs than the Orioles. DH Jose Canseco was the first AL hitter to reach six home runs. Former Oriole Danny Clyburn is platooning in left field but hitting .172. Shortstop Kevin Stocker, who raked the Orioles for six hits at Camden Yards, has continued to pound the ball. Even with yesterday's 4-1 win in Boston, Devil Rays pitching has been infected by too-brief starts from a rotation that has a 6.50 ERA. Relievers have pitched only 18 fewer innings than the starters.
