Yankees update

The Yankees have won five straight after losing on Opening Day, including a three-game sweep of Detroit at home. The Tigers were outscored 28-5, and manager Larry Parrish said after Sunday's game: "Well, I want to see somebody else play them right now. I'm ready to get out of town." The Orioles are ready to get out of last place, but they were 0-6 at Yankee Stadium last season and now they must contend with Clemens. Mendoza, who was supposed to be the club's sixth starter, blanked Oakland for eight in- nings, allowing five hits, in his first start. Derek Jeter is hitting .455 with seven RBIs, and Paul O'Neill is batting .400 with seven RBIs. (The Orioles' top RBI men -- Albert Belle and Harold Baines -- each have five.) Two Yankees near the bottom of the order are off to slow starts, however. Catcher Jorge Posada is batting .083, and third baseman Scott Brosius, last year's World Series MVP, is hitting .095. The Yankees haven't made an error. Mike Mussina is 3-8 lifetime at Yankee Stadium.
