Giles M. Thorndill, 19, Towson University student

Giles McArthur Thorndill, a student at Towson University, died in his sleep March 26 at home in the Cub Hill section of Baltimore County. He was 19.

Mr. Thorndill, who was completing his freshman year, had worked at Dunkin Donuts in Timonium. Born and raised in Timonium, he attended Dulaney High School and earned a general equivalency diploma. Mr. Thorndill enjoyed camping, hiking and rock climbing. He played the piano and guitar and was interested in photography.

Services were held yesterday.

He is survived by his father, David Thorndill of Cub Hill; his mother, Gillann Thorndill of Timonium; a sister, Christy Thorndill of Bolton Hill; his paternal grandmother, Doris Walsh of Grand Rapids, Mich.; his stepfather, Russell Balge of Timonium; and several aunts, uncles and cousins.

Shirley V. Scott, 61, Social Security worker

Shirley V. Scott, who worked as a Social Security Administration claims specialist for 30 years, died Saturday of heart failure at Sinai Hospital. She was 61 and lived in Northwest Baltimore.

At the time of her 1993 retirement, she was working at the SSA office at Metro West in Baltimore.

Miss Scott was born and raised in South Baltimore and graduated from Douglass High School in 1955.

She attended the Community College of Baltimore and Morgan State University.

She was a member and former choir singer at Lewin United Methodist Church in Northwest Baltimore, where services were held yesterday.

She is survived by three brothers, Leon Scott of Glen Burnie, and Donald Scott and Reginald Scott, both of Baltimore; a sister, Joan E. Mohorn of Baltimore; and several nieces and nephews.
