A Lisbon man was in serious condition yesterday at Maryland Shock Trauma Center in Baltimore after the fire department vehicle he was driving crashed into a tree.

Police said John Bascomb Bean, 66, was driving in the 8200 block of Savage Guilford Road in Savage about 10 a.m. when he lost control of the sport utility vehicle and it veered off the road.

Bean, a Howard County Fire and Rescue Service employee, was delivering fire department mail when the accident occurred.
