Let down your hair for a whimsical musical version of the Brothers Grimm fairy tale "Rapunzel," performed weekends through March at the Hannah More Arts Center. Hear a comical musical score and see choreography by local Pumpkin Theatre talent. This original adaptation was written by playwright Mark Andrew Beachy and directed by Elaine K. Beardsley. The musical is recommended for children ages 4 and up and adults.
"Rapunzel" is performed at 1 p.m. and 3 p.m. Sunday and March 20, March 21, March 27 and March 28 at the Hannah More Arts Center, St. Timothy's School, Greenspring Avenue in Stevenson. Sunday's 3 p.m. performance is sign-language interpreted. $10; $9 in advance. Call 410-828-1814.
Green Derby Day
Lace up your sneakers for a race to the finish line during Green Derby Day events Sunday in Annapolis. In honor of St. Patrick's Day, adults can participate in Green Beer Races with a tray of beer in hand, Land Canoe Races and Team Relay Races. Children can participate in Dog and Owner Races. Everyone is invited to watch.
The street festival, sponsored by Ruth's Chris Steak House, also features contests with local bartenders, waiters and waitresses carrying beer, live entertainment by sword-eating magicians, mimes, clowns, face painters and live music all day. Grilled foods and Ruth's Chris prime rib will be available for lunch, as will beer, Irish coffee, wine and soft drinks. Proceeds benefit local charities.
The festival runs from noon to 5 p.m. Sunday on Severn Avenue between 2nd and 4th avenues. Participants register from noon to 2 p.m. Races take place from 2 p.m. to 4 p.m. Free admission.
