Harbor Hospital Center

MARYLAND SCENE

February 28, 1999|By Sloane Brown

It must have been Valentine's Day. The longest line at the Harbor Daze celebration could be found at the oyster bar.

Some 500 country-western-clad revelers gathered at the Cancun Cantina in Hanover for barbecue, karaoke and line dancing, raising about $30,000 for the renovation of the Harbor Hospital Center's emergency department.

Among those two-stepping to the country-western band Lionheart were Barney Johnson, president and CEO of the hospital, with wife Jan, a real-estate ace; and event co-chairwomen Beverly Powell and Vicki Shockey. Also kicking up their cowboy boots: Rosa McCoy, a program coordinator at the University of Maryland; Towson University PR maven Louise Miller; and a whole posse of personalities from sponsoring radio station WPOC, including Teri Norman, Mark Williams and Todd Berry.
