Members of the Southeastern District drug enforcement unit raided 10 dwellings last night, arrested 21 people, including four juveniles, and seized narcotics, a rifle and a handgun.

Lt. Richard James, head of the unit, said officers seized $2,500 worth of heroin, cocaine and marijuana; more than $1,000; a .22-caliber rifle and a .22-caliber handgun during the raids in the Patterson Place and McElderry Park neighborhoods.

James said officers with search-and-seizure warrants conducted the raids between 6 p.m. and 9 p.m. The raids occurred after undercover surveillance by officers.

James said 17 adults were processed at the Central Booking and Intake Center. He said the juveniles were held overnight at the Northern District juvenile holding facility, pending release to their parents or transfer to area youth facilities.
