February 24, 1999

A 22-year-old man was killed and a 16-year-old boy seriously injured in a one-vehicle accident on a rural Manchester road early Saturday, state police said.

The driver, Michael Lee McKenzie of the 3000 block of Main St. in Manchester, was airlifted soon after the 1: 17 a.m. crash to Maryland Shock Trauma Center in Baltimore. He died of his injuries at 7: 47 p.m., a hospital spokeswoman said yesterday.

A passenger, Chris Lee Vaughn, of the 3200 block of Lineboro Road in Manchester, was taken by ambulance to Hanover Hospital in York County, Pa.

Noting privacy laws, hospital officials in Hanover declined yesterday to provide the juvenile's medical condition.

State police said a Hyundai was traveling east on Fridinger Mill Road near Eckard Road at an excessive speed in a 40-mph zone when it spun 180 degrees on a slight curve, left the road and slammed into several saplings.
