February 24, 1999|BY A SUN STAFF WRITER

Ten people were treated at an Annapolis hospital last night after someone discharged a pepper spray canister during an altercation at Kent Island High School in Queen Anne's County.

The incident occurred about 9 p.m. during a basketball game at the Stevensville school. It was not known if the incident occurred in the gym or outside.

Carol Gallaher, a nursing supervisor at Anne Arundel Medical Center, said the patients arrived by ambulances about 9: 45 p.m. and were released a short time after their faces were flushed with water.

A spokesman for the Queen Anne's Sheriff's Department said several deputies and state troopers went to the school to restore order.
