Foundation adds $210,000 for grants to nonprofits

The Columbia Foundation will add $210,000 from its endowment to the funds available this year for grants to Howard County nonprofits.

The foundation awards grants to human services and cultural and educational organizations through a competitive application process.

The money comes from income generated by its endowment, proceeds from the foundation's spring party, gifts and contributions.

The endowment has generated income of more than $1.2 million since its establishment in 1987. The foundation was created in 1969.
