Man accused of taking purse from home

February 13, 1999|BY A SUN STAFF WRITER

Baltimore County police yesterday charged a Freeland man with stealing a purse from the home of a Perry Hall woman last week after pretending to need to use her phone.

Victor Paul Sorrentino, 43, of the first block of Old Ruhl Court in Freeland, was arrested after a two-week search by city and county police, stemming from a string of thefts in which a man talked his way into women's homes before stealing their purses.

Yesterday's arrest involved a theft at the home of a woman in the 4300 block of Chapel Road. The woman told police her purse containing $240 was missing after she let a man into her home so he could use the phone to call his wife.

City police filed similar theft charges against Sorrentino earlier this week.
