A 9-year-old Eastern Shore boy was killed yesterday when the van his mother was driving was struck by a truck on U.S. 301 near Centreville, state police said.

Police said a Ford Aerostar van was traveling east on Rolling Bridge Road about 2: 20 p.m. when the driver crossed the southbound lane of U.S. 301 and reportedly stopped in the median strip. The van then entered the northbound lane and was struck on the passenger side by a 1994 Freightliner truck.

Killed was Michael Allen Barker, police said. His mother, Diane Elizabeth Barker, 39, of the 300 block of Poplar School Road in Centreville, was treated for shock at Easton Memorial Hospital. The driver of the truck suffered a minor eye injury and refused treatment, police said.
