Man dies in shooting at home in Aberdeen

February 05, 1999

The Harford County sheriff's office is investigating a shooting yesterday that investigators said might have been a suicide.

Deputies said Cletus Reece Tomez, 27, of Aberdeen died of a gunshot wound to the head after an apparent argument with his girlfriend, Mellisa George, 26.

George told deputies that she and Tomez were arguing shortly before 4: 30 a.m. at their home in the first block of Carol Ave. when he got a .45-caliber handgun. She said that she and Tomez struggled with the gun and it went off without striking anyone, she said. George said she ran out and heard another shot, deputies said.

Tomez was pronounced dead at the scene. George was being held yesterday on warrants charging her with failure to appear in court in an unrelated matter.
