Madhatters Ball aids Hopkins

January 31, 1999|By Anne Boone Simanski

The number 13 is unlucky, right? For some folks maybe, but not for those on the committee for the 13th annual Madhatters Ball. The ball, held at the L'Hirondelle Club in Ruxton, raised about $50,000 for charity.

The ball featured guests in the wackiest hats they could dream up. When they weren't admiring each others' toppers, they danced to the music of Tony Berry and New Money, played casino games and bid on auction items.

Among the partyers were Bob Lazzaro and Sue Lazzaro; David and Melinda Whitehurst; T. Wray and Gayle McCurdy; Steve and Carol White; Howard and Betsy Weiss; Ellen Hubbard (party co-chair) and David Hartman; and Bill and Irene Spengler (corporate donor chair).

The Ciccarone Center for the Prevention of Heart Disease at Johns Hopkins Hospital was the party's beneficiary.
