Esther L. McCauley, 78, Catholic school teacher

Esther L. McCauley, a retired Catholic school teacher in Baltimore County, died Jan. 22 of heart failure at her home in State College, Pa., where she had lived for 13 years. The former Owings Mills resident was 78.

A native of Lima, Peru, the former Esther Larranaga married Jack McCauley in 1946 and moved to the United States the same year. Mr. McCauley died in 1993.

Mrs. McCauley taught kindergarten, first grade and second grade at Sacred Heart School in Glyndon from about 1960 until about 1980. She was active with the Peruvian Club in Baltimore.

Services will be held at 10 a.m. tomorrow at Sacred Heart Roman Catholic Church on Sacred Heart Lane in Glyndon.

She is survived by a son, Carlos McCauley of Palm Bay, Fla.; a daughter, Isabel Farrell of State College; two brothers, Julio C. Larranaga and Juan M. Larranaga of Peru; four sisters, Carmen L. Villanueva, Maria Luisa Manrique and Isabel Larranaga of Peru, and Victoria Uriarte of St. Petersburg, Fla.; and three grandchildren.

Carla Bennett Rosenfeld, Anne Arundel teacher, 56

Carla Bennett Rosenfeld, a longtime Anne Arundel County elementary school teacher, died Tuesday of leukemia at Johns Hopkins Hospital. The Annapolis resident was 56.

For nearly 35 years, she taught third grade at Mayo Elementary School.

Born in Mayo, the former Carla Bennett graduated from Annapolis High School in 1960, received a bachelor's degree in elementary education from Towson State Teachers College in 1964 and earned a master's degree in education from George Washington University in 1975. She married Harvey Rosenfeld in 1965.

Mrs. Rosenfeld was a member of the University of Maryland Terrapin Club and was a fan of the school's basketball team. She also enjoyed reading and traveling.

Services will be held at 11 a.m. today at Mayo United Methodist Church on Turkey Point Road. She is survived by her husband and a brother, P. Tyson Bennett of Annapolis.
