Police identified Douglas Pennix, 25, yesterday as the man who was fatally shot Saturday afternoon in West Baltimore.

Detective Michael Glenn said Pennix was sitting with at least two other men on the front steps of a friend's house in the 1900 block of Etting St. about 2: 15 p.m. when a man he had been having a dispute with for more than a week shot him several times in the upper body with a handgun.

Glenn said Pennix, of the first block of N. Broadway in the Butchers Hill section of East Baltimore, died at 3: 20 p.m. at Maryland Shock Trauma Center.

Glenn declined to describe the nature of the dispute. He said no arrest had been made in the incident.
