Girls soccer team seeks help paying for Fla. tournament trip

Deer Park Recreation Council is seeking sponsors to help send its Lazers girls soccer team to Florida to participate in a tournament.

The girls, ages 10 to 13, have been invited to participate in the National Invitational Disney Cup International Youth Soccer Tournament in Orlando. The team would represent Carroll County Department of Recreation, Parks and Facilities.

The trip will cost about $900 per player of the 18-member team.

Donations can be made payable to Carroll Association of Recreation Councils and sent to GDPLSC Fund-raising Coordinator, 903 Boxwood Ave., Westminster 21157.

No minimum donation is required to become a sponsor and all donations are tax-deductible.

Fires

Westminster: Firefighters from Westminster, Pleasant Valley, Reese and Union Bridge responded at 8: 28 p.m. Wednesday to smoke in the building in the 500 block of Crows Court. Units were out 20 minutes.

Westminster: Firefighters responded at 9: 54 a.m. Tuesday to a carbon monoxide detector sounding in the 600 block of Oneta Drive. Units were out 28 minutes.

Police

Westminster: An employee of Coffey Music on East Main Street told police Wednesday that property was stolen from the store. The loss was estimated at $700.

Westminster: An employee of Westminster Family Center on Longwell Avenue told police Tuesday that property was stolen from the center. The loss was estimated at $129.

Westminster: A resident of Hampstead told police Monday that someone damaged her vehicle while it was parked at Cranberry Mall. The loss was estimated at $300.
