Free throws help Goucher hold off St. Mary's

Goucher converted seven of 10 free throws over the final 1: 10 to defeat St. Mary's, 68-61, last night in a Capital Athletic Conference game in St. Mary's City.

Bakari Ward (Arundel) led the Gophers (11-3, 3-1) with 12 points. The Seahawks (7-7, 3-2) got a game-high 17 points from Harvey Davis.

Johns Hopkins 69, Ursinus 50: Joel Wertman had a game-high 27 points as the host Blue Jays (12-3, 3-1 Centennial Conference) beat the Bears (8-6, 4-1) for the 11th time in 13 games.

The Blue Jays finished with 10 blocks, one shy of a school record.

Gettysburg 67, Western Maryland 48: Junior forward Bill Davidson had 19 points as the host Bullets (10-5, 4-1) handed the Green Terror (3-13, 0-5) its 10th straight loss in a Centennial Conference game.

Sophomore forward Sean Pond scored 15 for Western Maryland.

Washington College 67, Haverford 62: Four Shoremen scored in double figures as host Washington College (8-6, 2-2) downed the visiting Black Squirrels (3-11, 1-3) in a Centennial Conference game. Greg Adams had 16 points.

Catholic 80, Salisbury State 73: Mike Lepeonka scored 15 as the Cardinals (12-3, 5-0) beat the visiting Sea Gulls (7-6, 3-1) in Capital Athletic Conference action. Salisbury's George Robinson led all scorers with 20.

Women

Loyola 64, Fairfield 49: Jennifer Bongard scored 19 to power the host Greyhounds (11-4, 4-3) past the Stags (7-9, 3-5) in a Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference game.

Salisbury State 76, Catholic 71: Elisabeth Barfuss scored 20 to carry the Sea Gulls (12-3, 5-0) past the host Cardinals (3-9, 0-5) in a Capital Athletic Conference game.

St. Mary's 75, Goucher 40: The host Seahawks (9-5, 3-2) held the Gophers (3-11, 1-4) to 27.1 percent shooting in a CAC win. St. Mary's Felicia Harris led all scorers with 24 points, and Erica Pearson added 22 points and 16 rebounds, her 12th double double of the season.

Frostburg State 85, Pittsburgh-Greensburg 47: The host Bobcats (7-5, 2-1) used a 15-4 run to start the second half and rolled over the Panthers (1-10, 1-1) in an Allegheny Mountain Conference game. Jen Long and Jennifer Twigg each had 12 points for Frostburg.

Catonsville CC 57, Prince George's CC 44: Keita Moore and Monica Lacks each scored nine as the Cardinals (7-7, 5-4) edged the host Owls (6-9, 2-5) in Largo in Maryland JuCo League action.
