A United Parcel Service driver was struck by a car yesterday on Route 31 outside Westminster while walking to deliver a package, state police said.

Robert A. Burman Jr., 25, of Delta, Pa., was delivering a package to a home in the 700 block of Old New Windsor Road, just west of Fenby Farm Road, shortly after noon when an eastbound Pontiac Firebird struck him, said Trooper Christina Becker.

Burman was in serious condition last night at Maryland Shock Trauma Center in Baltimore, a hospital spokeswoman said.

The accident is being investigated, Becker said.
