Terps sign first two from Midwest

The Maryland men's lacrosse team announced six signings for the 2000 season yesterday, including its first two Midwest recruits in school history.

Brett Harper, a defenseman from Upper Arlington High in Columbus, Ohio, and Sean Leary, an attackman out of Detroit Country Day in Troy, Mich., were both all-state players last season and mark the Terrapins' first players outside the East Coast.

The Terps also signed two local products in Mount St. Joseph defenseman Andy Capelle and Boys' Latin midfielder James Daue. Mike Howley, a defenseman from Wantagh High (N.Y.), and William Passavia, a midfielder out of Ward Melville High (N.Y.), round out the early signings.
