Youths sought for junior firefighters group

January 20, 1999

Winfield Community Volunteer Fire Department welcomes new members to its junior group of firefighters.

Youths ages 12 to 16 can learn the basics of firefighting without dealing with a real fire. Members work with hoses, breathing apparatus, fire extinguishers, ladders, ropes and other tools.

When available, youths accompany senior firefighters to incidents and training in addition to their own monthly training sessions.

Junior firefighters also help with fund raising and other fire department activities and earn community service hours.
