Terence Ward scored 20 points to lift UMBC to a 68-62 victory over Fairleigh Dickinson last night in a Northeast Conference game in Hackensack, N.J.

The Retrievers (12-5, 11-0 Northeast Conference) extended their school-record win streak to seven games. The Knights (7-9, 4-5), who lost their third straight, committed 18 turnovers.

UMBC ended the first half on a 7-3 run for a 39-33 lead. Ward scored 13 in the first half.

Coppin State 65, UMES 61: Jorge Cajigas scored 15 to lead the Eagles past the Hawks in a Mid-Eastern Athletic Conference game in Princess Anne.

Coppin (6-12, 5-3), which won its 27th straight against the Fighting Hawks (4-11, 2-6), shot 43 percent (12 of 28) en route to a 38-26 lead at the break.

The Eagles led 42-26 with 17: 27 left before UMES cut the lead to 56-54 with 6: 50 remaining. But a jumper by Coppin's Kofi Pointer and layup from Greg Hamond pushed the Eagles' lead back to six.

Morgan State 68, Delaware State 58: Curtis King had 18 points and Jimmy Fields chipped in 17 as the Bears (7-9, 6-2 MEAC) won their fourth straight game.

Morgan had its first lead, 43-42, after a Rasheed Sparks layup with 10: 20 left. The Bears stretched their lead to 10 after two free throws by Ronnie Van Hook.

Mount St. Mary's 81, Robert Morris 79: Keith Jones' 23 points led five double-digit scorers and Melvin Whitaker hit the game-winning shot in overtime as the Mountaineers (7-10, 5-6) outlasted the host Colonials (8-8, 5-5) in a Northeast Conference game. The Mount needed a blocked shot by Whitaker with 1.2 seconds left in overtime to secure the win.

Canisius 83, Loyola 74: Kevin Worley scored a career-high 26 points as the host Golden Griffins (7-8, 3-4) held off the Greyhounds (5-9, 0-7) in a Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference game.

Jason Rowe scored 26 for Loyola. He also had seven rebounds, seven assists and five steals.

Loyola trailed 35-27 at the half and cut the deficit to 67-66 on a three-point play by Brian Carroll with 4: 30 to play.

Catholic 87, Villa Julie 57: Kris Zeisler scored 13 to lead the host Cardinals (11-3) past the Mustangs (1-13). Freshman Jermaine Smith led Villa Julie with 24 points.

St. Mary's 81, Washington & Lee 63: The Seahawks (7-6) used second-half runs of 17-4 and 17-2 on the way to their fifth consecutive win. Brandon Jones' 21 points led St. Mary's.

Frostburg State 88, Penn State-Altoona 60: The host Bobcats (7-6) scored 57 second-half points and led by as many as 28 in an Allegheny Mountain Conference win. David Manigault and Alan Moore each had 15 points for Frostburg.
