The week in review

Results

Won at home over N.C. State, 94-48, Sunday

Won at No. 9 North Carolina, 89-76, Wednesday

Who's hot

Laron Profit says Santa Claus brought him a jump shot. The senior forward made one of 18 three-point attempts in the first 10 games. Since then, he's 12-for-20.

Who's not

Sophomore center Mike Mardesich is still searching for the confidence he had as a freshman. He had three baskets in the N.C. State blowout, but his field-goal percentage is .373.

Quotable "I know they're not 13 points better than us. But right now they're the better team." -- Carolina point guard Ed Cota.

The week ahead

Schedule

Georgia Tech, Tuesday (9 p.m.), Cole Field House.

What to look for

Surprise. The Yellow Jackets have been the conference's most inconsistent team, getting crushed by Kentucky, beating North Carolina and losing to Hofstra in the span of a week. Maryland needs to move the ball against twin towers Jason Collier and Alvin Jones.

What's at stake

After playing three times in seven days, Maryland could use some rest. The Terps need to dispose of Tech before embarking on the most difficult period of their conference schedule, a four-game stretch that includes games at Clemson, Wake Forest and Duke.
