Meals on Wheels, Salvation Army form link

Meals on Wheels and the Salvation Army of Carroll County have banded to better serve the community.

The Salvation Army facility in Westminster is also the Meals on Wheels food distribution site.

Since 1992, meals for the Carroll County program have been cooked, packaged and transported by van from Highlandtown, said Gail Burton, Carroll County Meals on Wheels program administrator.

Burton said the organization decided that shipping food in bulk, then preparing and packaging it locally, would help maintain the food's proper temperature.

The cooked food would then be delivered by drivers using heated food carriers.

Under the agreement between the two groups, Meals on Wheels will use the Salvation Army's kitchen and dining area on weekday mornings.

Burton said food packers are needed. For information or to volunteer, call 410-857-4447.

The Salvation Army's new county commander, Lt. Donna League, has two major goals: improving the appearance of the facility and grounds, and letting people know that the Salvation Army is interested in building partnerships with other organizations in the community.

For information on the Salvation Army, at 300 Hahn Road, call League at 410-876-9358. The office is open from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. weekdays.
