Goodman is county public information director

January 05, 1999

Victoria Hastings Goodman, a 22-year veteran of Howard County government, is the new director of the county's Office of Public Information, County Executive James N. Robey announced yesterday.

Goodman, 44, a native of Daniels, as is Robey, was acting director of the office for the past several months, and was art and graphics director of the office before that. An employee in the office since 1981, she will make $56,748 in her new job.

"I'm very excited," she said, "because I've worked here so long. I always hoped this could happen."

Robey, a former career county police officer who rose through the ranks to be chief, said, "I have experienced, firsthand, the energy she brings to a challenge, and am confident she will be an even greater asset to this county and our organization in her new role."

Goodman was president of the national Association of County Information Officers in 1997-1998 and won an award from that group for her work designing the county's Web page.
