Car crazy in Ocean City

The 20th annual Ocean City Hot Rod & Custom Car Show features customized cars, trucks and motorcycles tomorrow through Sunday at the Convention Center. On public view for the first time is the Beetle Mania, a radical custom chopped, channeled and sectioned candy-apple red 1966 Porsche-powered Volkswagen. Also featured are Jerry Gar-cia's 1975 750 Honda Easy Rider Chopper "Sugaree," a radical custom Harley-Davidson Sportster 3-Wheel trick trike, the Ultimate 32 Ford Hi Boy Street Rod, and the Team Extreme Mr. Potato Head junior dragster. In addition, there are NASCAR and Hot Wheels collectibles and automotive specialty vendors.

The convention center is at Ocean Highway and 42nd Street. Hours are noon to 6 p.m. Friday, 10 a.m. to 8 p.m. Saturday and 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. Sunday. Admission is $5, $3 children under 13, free for those under 4. Call 410-289-8230. Get ready to count down the last few hours of 1998 at First Night in York, Pa. Beginning at 7 p.m., the fun-filled evening for revelers of all ages features family entertainment at more than 25 sites throughout the historic district. At 11 p.m., festivities move to Continental Square for the grand finale, featuring Stu Huggins and the Susquehanna River Band and, of course, fireworks at midnight.

Admission buttons (good for all sites) are $10, $4 for ages 5-12, and can be obtained from 5 p.m. to 10 p.m. at the Capitol Box Office, Gazebo and Continental Square, or the First Night Ticket Van at Market and Beaver streets. Food and beverages are available from street vendors throughout the downtown area. For more information, call 717-854-1587.
