Kitchen fun keeps kids busy over the holidays

If you're wondering what to do with vacationing school kids this week, "Cooking with Mickey & Friends" by Pat Baird (Disney Press, 1998) will keep them busy with easy recipes such as this:

Jasmine's Fruitie Smoothie

Serves 4

1 medium, very ripe banana, peeled

1 cup fresh strawberries

1 cup nonfat plain yogurt or low-fat milk

1/4 teaspoon vanilla (optional)

2 ice cubes

Break banana into three or four pieces and place in a blender container or the work bowl of a food processor. Rinse the strawberries, and pull off the stems. Put them in the container. Add the rest of the ingredients. Put the lid on the blender tightly in place. Blend for about 30 seconds, or until smooth and creamy. Pour into glasses and serve.

New ways with leftovers

Can't face another turkey sandwich this week? Campbell's Holiday Leftover Hotline offers easy recipes that take under 30 minutes to prepare. Call 888-4-533-8683 for such dishes as Asian turkey stir-fry, easy cheesy turkey quesadillas, and turkey and broccoli Alfredo.
