Mind Games

Game 1 of the 1997 NBA Finals was held on a Sunday. With nine seconds left, Karl "The Mailman" Malone of the Utah Jazz was awarded two free throws. If he delivered, the Jazz would lead the Chicago Bulls, 84-82. As Karl got ready to shoot, Chicago's Scottie Pippen whispered, "The Mailman doesn't deliver on Sunday." Karl missed both shots!

Meet Barry Sanders

What makes Barry Sanders of the Detroit Lions the best running back in pro football? Barry makes his opponents tackle air!

Barry slips, slides, spins and dashes into the end zone. "I'm small," says Barry. "I can't go through guys, so I have to find a way around them."

Barry has led the NFL in rushing four times. He needs 2,694 yards to break Walter Payton's career record. That's two good Barry seasons away.
