George Peabody Library, 17 E. Mount Vernon Place, 410-659-8197. Marble-floored reception space beneath six tiers of balconies. Accommodates 240 seated, 190 seated with dancing, up to 400 standing. Available Mondays to Fridays after 5 p.m., all day Saturdays and Sundays. Reserve as early as possible. Cost: $1,500 to $2,000 for four-hour event. Approved caterers only.

The Inn at Government House, 1125-29 N. Calvert St., 410-539-0566. Turn-of-the-century Victorian mansion. Contact: Jeanie Clark. Accommodates 50 seated, 125 standing. Cost: $500 to $1,000, depending on size of party. Reserve three months in advance. Available seven days a week until midnight. Outside catering welcome.

Gramercy Mansion, 1400 Greenspring Valley Road, 410-486-2405. English Tudor mansion built in 1902. Five public rooms furnished with antiques; landscaped gardens. Contact: Maria Webb. Accommodates 150. Cost: $2,200 Fridays, Saturdays and Sundays; $1,100 Mondays to Thursdays, with some exceptions. Approved caterers only. No smoking inside. Overnight accommodations.

Great Blacks in Wax Museum, 1601-03 E. North Ave., 410-522-9544. Black-history showcase. Contact: Liz Byrd. Reserve as soon as possible. Accommodates 150 seated with tables, 200 seated with chairs alone; 250 standing. Cost: $500, which includes tour of the museum and the setup of tables and chairs.
