Police were investigating yesterday an incident in which an alleged armed robber died of a gunshot wound he suffered during a struggle with his intended victim.

Anthony Jackson, 32, of the 1500 block of N. Montford Ave. died about 9:18 p.m. Wednesday at Johns Hopkins Hospital, police said. He was shot about 9 p.m. in the 900 block of N. Chester St.

Roosevelt Sydnor, 32, of the 2500 block of S. Paca St. was arrested near the scene and charged with first-degree murder, police said. He was being held without bail at the Central Booking and Intake Center.

Police said Sydnor told them that Jackson tried to rob him, and during a struggle, the weapon discharged, wounding Jackson. Police said witnesses verified Sydnor's account of the incident.
