Teen shot, killed while walking to restaurant

A West Baltimore teen-ager was shot and killed yesterday afternoon while standing in front of a corner restaurant in the 600 block of Poplar Grove St.

Homicide Detective Albert Marcus said Markel Ward, 14, of the 900 block of N. Franklintown Road, was shot four times in the chest and twice in the legs about 5 p.m. while standing in front of the neighborhood restaurant, where he had gone to purchase dinner.

Police said Ward was taken to Maryland Shock Trauma Center, where he died. Police knew of no motive for the shooting and had made no arrests.
