Hopkins beats Swarthmore, 60-51 State

Joel Wertman had 18 points and 11 rebounds, his third double-double of the season, as Johns Hopkins defeated Swarthmore, 60-51, last night in a Centennial Conference game in Pennsylvania.

Hopkins coach Bill Nelson earned his 300th career victory. Nelson has 195 wins at Hopkins and also spent three years each at RIT and Nazareth.

Hopkins (4-1) held the Garnet Tide (1-3) scoreless over the final 1: 15.

Women

St. Peter's 61, Navy 58: Patty Marchese led all scorers with 19 points as the Peahens (3-0) rallied to victory over the host Midshipmen (4-4).

Erica Hayes led Navy with 18 points and a game-high 12 rebounds.

Western Maryland 71, College of Notre Dame 54: Patty Russo led four double-digit scorers with 15 points as the Green Terror beat the host Gators. Jill Ibex chipped in 14 points, Kathi Snyder 13 and Kristin Miller 11 for Western Maryland.

Washington College 65, Swarthmore 64, OT: Allyson Britton scored 19 points and Katie Bierzonski had 18 as the host Shoremen (2-2, 0-1) defeated the Garnet Tide (2-2, 0-2) in a Centennial Conference game.

Gettysburg 57, Villa Julie 38: The Bullets received scoring from 12 players on the way to victory over the host Mustangs. Julie Hawthorne led Gettysburg with 10 points.
