Chamber of Commerce plans luncheon Dec. 10

The Carroll County Chamber of Commerce will have its monthly membership luncheon at noon Dec. 10 at the Westminster Riding Club.

John Steadman, a Sun sports columnist and former sports editor, will talk on "Sports Topics Covered in a Half-Century Career." He also worked for the Baltimore Colts as an assistant general manager and publicity manager from 1955 to 1957.

Lunch will cost $13 and reservations are due Friday.

Long & Foster sponsoring Marines' Toys for Tots effort

Long & Foster Real Estate offices in Westminster and Taneytown will sponsor the Marine Corps Reserve's annual Toys for Tots campaign.

Donations of new and unwrapped toys can be dropped off at Crossroads Shopping Center in Westminster or at 443 E. Baltimore St. in Taneytown through Dec. 18.

Toys will be turned over to the Marine Corps Reserve for distribution through churches and social welfare agencies to needy children.

Dinner-dance Jan. 30 to benefit scholarship fund

The Carroll County Chamber of Commerce will have its annual gala dinner-dance from 6: 30 p.m. to midnight Jan. 30 at Wilhelm Ltd. Caterers in Westminster.

The theme will be "a stroll down memory lane" with the Fabulous Diamonds. A cash bar and valet parking will be offered.

Tickets are $45 per person, or $450 for tables of 10. Proceeds benefit the chamber's Charles D. Schaffer Scholarship Fund.

Reservations are due Jan. 19.

Mount Airy chiropractor attends professional seminar

Dr. David Koronet of Mount Airy Chiropractic Center recently attended a seminar sponsored by the Maryland Chiropractic Association.

Koronet has been a member of the MCA since 1988 and has practiced in Mount Airy since 1991. He lives in the town.

Merger of banks is expected to be completed tomorrow

F&M Bancorp of Frederick and Monocacy Bancshares of Taneytown are expected to complete their merger tomorrow.

Both companies held stockholders' meetings Tuesday to vote on the merger. They have received required regulatory approvals for the merger.

F&M Bancorp is merging with Taneytown Bank & Trust. F&M's lead bank subsidiary is Farmers & Mechanics National Bank, with offices in Frederick, Montgomery and Carroll counties.

Transcription company moves to Westminster

Al Betz & Associates Inc., a full-service court reporting company, has moved from Baltimore to Westminster.

The company was founded in 1977 by Al Betz, a pioneer in developing and implementing computer-assisted transcription.

Betz & Associates has participated in such cases as the AT&T Corp. divestiture, the trials of Reagan administration officials and Washington Mayor Marion S. Barry Jr., and now the tobacco company litigation.

The company is managed by Kay Betz, chief financial officer and a lecturer in the department of graduate studies at Western Maryland College; Matthew Betz, production manager; and Linda M. Lee, director of management information systems.
