Michigan overpowers Coppin, 104-49 State women

Raina Goodlow had a game-high 18 points and Stacey Thomas contributed 16 points and 11 rebounds as Michigan overwhelmed Coppin State, 104-49, yesterday in the first round of the Cancun Tournament in Mexico.

Michigan (3-1) led 23-13 with 11: 10 left in the first half before a 30-17 run pushed its lead to 53-30 at halftime. The Wolverines outscored Coppin 24-6 over the first 10 minutes of the second half to blow open the game.

Keisha Brooks led the Eagles (1-1) with 17 points and 10 rebounds.

Coppin plays Oklahoma in the consolation game tomorrow at 5: 30 p.m.

Weber State 77, Navy 47: Brianna Kanongata scored 22, including 16 in the first half, as the Wildcats (1-1) blitzed the Midshipman (2-4) in the opening round of the Georgia Tech Classic.

Weber State shot 62.1 percent (18-for-29) in the first half on the way to a 44-18 lead at halftime.

Plebe Hilary Goodrich led Navy with 17 points and eight rebounds.

Navy plays Samford today at 2 p.m.
