State 1A football final

No. 13 Oakland Mills vs. Forestville

Site: Byrd Stadium, College Park

Time: 3 p.m.

Outlook: Neither team has won a state title. This is Forestville's fifth playoff appearance and second in the finals. The Knights of Prince George's County are a wing-T team with speed that emphasizes running. Senior Ed Walker leads the Knights with 1,436 yards and 15 TDs. Gary Morgan has 4.3 speed and is a dangerous kickoff and punt return man with three TDs off returns. LB Ben Carter, DG Kevin Weathers and DB Larry McClain are their best defensive players. Oakland Mills will mix the run and pass from an I-formation with QB T. J. Welsh, who set the school single-season passing record with 1,750 yards. RB Vinnie Rubbo set a school record with 1,873 yards last season, but injuries held him to 734 this season. He had 127 yards last week, however, in a 14-13 win over Cambridge. Tom Browne is the key target with 43 catches for 909 yards and nine TDs. The Scorpions are led defensively by Brian Holly, Joey Ellis, Jay Frizzelle, Rubbo and Jeremy Mundell. This is Oakland Mills' ninth playoff appearance and second in the finals.
