Senior guard Bakari Ward (Arundel) scored 27 points to lead Goucher (2-0) to the championship of the 32nd annual S.W. Sponaugle Classic with a 76-67 win over Franklin & Marshall (1-1) in Lancaster, Pa., yesterday.

York 68, Villa Julie 59: Jason Saurbaugh and Dave Martins scored 22 points apiece to lead the Spartans (1-1) over the Mustangs (0-2) in the third-place game of the S.W. Sponaugle Classic. Michael Palmere led the Mustangs (0-2) with 22 points.

UMES 96, Niagara 90: Kevin Wallace scored 19 points and Demetric Reese had 16 in the win by the host Fighting Hawks (1-0) over the Purple Eagles (1-2) in a nonconference game.

Johns Hopkins 76, Rose-Hulman 59: Pablo Koropecky scored 14 points and Joel Wertman had 13 to lead the Blue Jays (2-0) past the Fightin' Engineers (1-1) in the Blue Jay Classic final.

Randolph Macon 60, Western Maryland 53: Junior Mike LaGuardia scored 24 points to lead the 13th-ranked Yellow Jackets (2-0) over the Green Terror (1-1) in the championship game of the Western Maryland College-Converse Tip Off Tournament in Westminster.

Randolph Macon took the lead for good when Tournament Most Valuable Player Matt Meehan converted a three-point play to put the Yellow Jackets (2-0) ahead 35-33 with 15: 48 left.

The Green Terror was led by Sean Pond's 19 points, and Brian Billman contributed 17.

Walsh 99, Salisbury State 66: Brett Moore scored a game-high 17 points, and Ray Berry added 15 to lead Walsh to the championship of the Dr. Kleppinger Tip-Off Tournament at Alvernia College.

Tournament MVP Kevin Bille added eight points and five assists for the Cavaliers (2-0). Eric Prendeville, who was named to the All-Tournament team, led the Sea Gulls (1-1) with 13 points.

Washington College 81, Gwynedd Mercy 74: Earl Piner scored 18 points to lead the host Shoremen (1-1) over the Griffins (0-2) in the consolation game of the College of New Jersey Tip-Off Tournament. Piner also had nine rebounds and four assists.

Indiana-Pennsylvania 66, Bowie State 48: Rob Norris scored 15 points, and Steve Menifee added 14 to lead the Indians (2-1) over the host Bulldogs (1-2). Jamar Wood led the Bulldogs with 13 points.

Chowan 85, Frostburg State 75: Five players scored in double figures, led by Tyrone McCreary's 25 points and 12 rebounds, as the Braves (1-1) won the McDonald's Frostburg Classic.
