North Carroll (11-5-2) vs. Leonardtown (16-2-0)

When: 2: 30 p.m. tomorrow

Where: North County High School, 10 E. First Avenue, Ferndale

Outlook: North Carroll has made the state tournament once before, losing in a 1991 semifinal to eventual champion Hammond. This is Leonardtown's first trip since beginning girls soccer in 1994.

With 13 goals and an assist, Stephanie Rogers is North Carroll's top scorer, followed by senior Danielle Shearer (7, 5) and freshman Katie Riley (7, 3). Sweeper Kellyn Hentz, a senior, has eight assists.

Leonardtown will counter with sophomore Cyprian Gillingham, whose 26 goals, 18 assists are a St. Mary's County scoring record; freshman April Lockley (17, 5), and senior Elaine Chun, 11 assists.

Chun has been named to the All-State first team, and she and senior Katherine Groenenboom are the chief defenders in front of sophomore goalkeeper Carolyn Matisick. They have helped produce 14 shutouts, and Matisick has allowed eight goals, three by Ryken, a St. Mary's County private school, in a 3-1 loss in the last game of the regular season.

Beth Reeb, North Carroll's junior goalkeeper, had two shutouts in the regular season, then blanked two of the team's three regional opponents and Bel Air, 1-0, in last week's state semifinal. Leonardtown gained the final with a 1-0 victory over Broadneck.
