Towson off to a rough start as Creighton waltzes, 93-48 Tigers fall behind, 48-19, at halftime of road game

OMAHA, Neb. -- Five players scored in double figures as Creighton rolled over Towson, 93-48, last night in the season opener for both schools at the Civic Auditorium.

The Bluejays' Rodney Buford led all scorers with 24, while Nerijus Karlikanovas had 15 and Donnie Johnson 13. The Tigers were led by Alphonso Hawes' 13 points.

Creighton shot 56 percent (18 of 32) in the first half to jump to a 48-19 lead. Towson recorded 10 of its first-half points from the foul line.

The Bluejays didn't ease up in the second half, twice holding leads of 33 points as they converted three of nine three-pointers and 12 of 13 free throws.

Towson was out-rebounded 44-26 and had 18 turnovers.
