Poets and a pianist to appear at book fair

Nationally recognized poets Julia Wendell and Bruce A. Jacobs will be among the featured guests at the Poetry Place at the Coffeehouse at the Random House Book Fair on Saturday at Carroll Community College.

Other poets will include Virginia Crawford, Barbara DeCesare, Rosemary Klein, Sam Schmidt, Kathleen Adcock, Alan Bogage, Joanne Bowen, Kim Neimeyer and Susan Tegeler.

Music by pianist Karen Friedland will alternate with poetry readings from 10 a.m. to 3: 30 p.m. in the ground-floor atrium of the college's Learning Resources Center.

Winners of the student writing contest will read their works at 2 p.m. Short stories and poems by students have been compiled into a book available for $1 (free to participants).

Elementary school winners were Caitlin Baummer, Eleanor Brasfield, Alyssa Cook, Hope Ellis, Ian Ferrell, Kaitlin Ferrell Dresden Moreno, Brianna Stefanelli, Jordan Willet, Justine Willet, Allison Willingham and Sara Willingham.

Middle school winners were Rachel Barnes, Marybeth Barton, Tyler Scott Barton, Donnie Bell, Walter Bender, Samantha Bonsteel, Laura Goughnour, Rebecca Gridley, Amber Groomes, Rachel Heeter, Kate Ireland, Rachel Miller, Heather O'Mara, Becca Paegels, Katherine Sands, Kimberly Spencer, Brianna Weisburg.

High school winners were Ted Bubert, Laura Dziorny, Ashley Edeling, Katie Ensminger, Nicki Kerkam, Kerri Lanae Meade, Charity Smith, Veronica Spears and Melissa Wisner.

Admission to the book fair is free and includes panel discussions, workshops, book sales and signings, and a silent auction.
